Steve Weingarth’s trip to London 2018

Here is a selection of photos from Leighterton in the Cotswolds, Gloucestershire at the ANZAC Day service, held on the nearest Sunday to ANZAC Day each year. I gave the address, mentioning my Uncle buried in Leighterton cemetery who had been taken off his fighter pilot duties at the Front in 1918 only to die training others in England. 24 are buried at Leighterton ,the largest war graves cemetery in England for Australian Flying Corps officers and trainees.

I also read out the words given to me by Dr Brendan Nelson AWM Director and Trent Zimmerman MP for North Sydney. I couldn’t take photos in the Westminster Abbey service. There are shots of ANZAC Day in London online. Note 3 and 4 to the right of me in the 2nd photo are the Queen’s reps in Gloucestershire lord Lieutenant Lord Vesty and Dame Trotter.

In the group photo of the men with medals (photo 1) is Air Marshal Sir Ian MacFadyen-tall bloke in the middle, 2 persons to the right of me who invited me to give my AFC talk to the Royal British Legion and put us up at his home. He was a former National President RBL and now local branch President. His distinguished record, including being Commander in the Iraq War, is on Google.

What a honour to be asked to do this talk with many former RAF pilots in the centenary year of the RAF, then be with 10 back in the former Phantom pilot’s home.
